Writer: privacy policy

Last updated: 4 November 2026

Writer is a writing app for iPhone made by Luc Bocahut. This policy explains what happens to your writing and your information when you use it.

The short version

Writer doesn't collect anything about you. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking. Your writing is kept on your iPhone, and goes anywhere else only if you send it there.

Your writing

On your iPhone. Everything you write, with its earlier versions, is stored in Writer's own storage on the device. It's protected by iOS data protection and is included in your iPhone's encrypted backups (iCloud Backup or your computer), like other app data.

GitHub, if you connect it. You can choose to sync with a GitHub repository you own. Writer then sends your pieces directly from your iPhone to that repository and reads them back. The sign-in uses GitHub's own page; Writer receives a token that only reaches the repositories you allow, and keeps it in the iPhone's Keychain. Your use of GitHub is covered by GitHub's privacy statement. You can stop syncing at any time in Writer (bookshelf, then Stop syncing with GitHub) and revoke Writer's access in GitHub's Settings, under Applications.

Sharing. When you share or export a piece, it goes where you send it, through the iOS share sheet or the clipboard. Writer removes its temporary copy afterwards.

Writing suggestions

Suggestions use Apple's on-device model (Apple Intelligence). The text you ask about is processed on your iPhone and isn't sent to the developer or to a server by Writer.

What the developer receives

Nothing. Writer has no server of its own. If you write through the contact page, your message is used only to reply to you.

Children

Writer doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.

Contact
